New World Beta This Weekend

A second closed beta of Need for Speed World will be running this weekend from Friday March 19th 4pm GMT to Monday, March 22nd 7am GMT. Everybody who was involved with the first beta will also have access to the second one plus many others as the amount of players is doubled.

Update: Detailed release notes for the new beta:
Quote:
- Server will now give detailed error messages
- For example, if you enter your password incorrectly it will tell you that rather than showing the a “-747” error
- Game will now produce debug data when crashing that can be sent to dev team when you report bugs
- The crash dump will be a binary file named “NFSCrashDump_CL0_YYYY.MM.DD_HH.MM.SS.dmp” and can be found in the following directory ?
- If possible, please provide the cramp dump files when submitting a bug through World.NeedforSpeed.com
- Number of vinyls per car increased to 50
- Prices of vinyls and paint set to 0 (or 1 if not possible)
- Essentially, vinyls will be free to put on the car
Changes to the game:
- Matchmaking stability improved
- Matchmaking timeout increased to 30 seconds
- End of race reward re-balances
- Number of events (races) changed to 15
- Half of events are available from levels 1-5 the rest from levels 6-10
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed issue with entitling players ("Disconnected from the server. Game will be shut down." bug)
- Fixed a rare issue where a user could be alone in a multiplayer race
- Fixed the region names in the login application
- Improved Teleport to a friend
- Fixed the time out issue while in car customization. There should be no need to save intermediate results in customization

SHIFT GGL Tournament Final Four Known

The final four winners of the Need for Speed SHIFT GGL Tournament with a $30,000 grand prize are now known: from the Xbox 360 it's xsmd and the number 2 racer on the leaderboards, URCwhiplash. And from PlayStation3 Kopaszgeci and PRTM-twinturboQc.
These 4 racers will fly to Black Box headquarters in Vancouver to compete head to head for the final prize, $30,000 on Autotrader.
Big congrats to all four and especially URCwhiplash!

Entry for the Street Tuned Challenge for Need for Speed Shift is now open! This time, tuners will be tuning tier one cars with tier one bodykits and "street" vinyl work. Shift's limitless layers are being put to good use to create something simple, yet detailed and eyecatching. Common, affordable cars are being used, street legal tier one bodywork is required and it's up to tuners to be creative with the paintwork. See a different style to the usual worked race cars emerge, sign up and watch this challenge and support your favourite tuners undertaking this challenge! Head to the challenge page for more information and to sign up!
You have plenty of time until the 29th of March 2010 07:30 GMT+9.5 to enter this challenge. One entry per user is allowed with unlimited spots in the challenge open.

Exotic Racing Series downloadable content for Need for Speed SHIFT is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 18th!
What we are getting is 7 new cars, including the all new McLaren MP4-12C, Gumpert Apollo and the legendary BMW M1. You'll be able to drive all these cars in 50 new career events and one the all new Riviera track with 4 racing layouts. All this will be available for $10 on PS3 and for 800 MS points on the 360.

With the first western Need for Speed World beta running last weekend there were plenty of people with a chance to try the game out. Of course since car customization is a big part of NFS World, our Showroom now has a Need for Speed World section where you can upload all the cars you, the lucky beta testers, managed to create. For the rest of us, there should be another beta in a few weeks with even more players.

[Super Street] - The body-kit used must be tier 1. The cars used must be fairly affordable, and typical street cars. The vinyls should also be "street". Basically, sporty, but not hardcore, and something that will turn necks. The ultimate daily drive?
[Showcars] - Not what this game's geared towards... but there's plenty of layers to work with to create something different to the mass of performance cars in the showroom.

The first SHIFT CTC is getting off the ground! If you want to take part, pick your theme now from the 10 described below. You have 2 choices each. Follow the comment link to vote!
[Hypercars] - Tune a tier 4 car.
[Works Racer] - Tune a works converted car.
[Super Street] - The body-kit used must be tier 1. The cars used must be fairly affordable, and typical street cars. The vinyls should also be "street". Basically, sporty, but not hardcore, and something that will turn necks. The ultimate daily drive?
[Showcars] - Not what this game's geared towards... but there's plenty of layers to work with to create something different to the mass of performance cars in the showroom.
[Hot Hatch] - Tune Crazy Hatchbacks
[Matte Challenge] - At least half the car is to be matte. Can be done using paint or vinyl covering. (You can choose the vinyl texture right?)
[S2000 Challenge] - Tune an S2000.
[Abstract Challenge] - Create an abstract art-type design.
[Orange Challenge] - Orange must be the car's main colour.
[Radius Challenge] - Circles... Lots of Circles... make something awesome using circles. You can use other vinyls... but the layout will be mainly circular.

[CTC 19] Underdog Challenge Results Announced!

Underdog challenge is officially over, and the voters have chosen GanZZo's "BBS Legacy" sponsored ride as their favourite on 373 points, well clear of the other competitors in the competition.
In second place was ::nica::'s Tiburon GTArt, a wild showcar on 338 points. Audi A3 Quattro by Rocky47 followed behind in third place.
Congratulations to all who competed and had fun!
